Nobody predicted the events that affected many lives.
It was hard to see around me. I had to grab off memory. I tried to envision my surroundings to make sure I was grabbing the appropriate things. Then I heard what I was dreading. I turned around to see a large flow of water rushing down the staircase to our basement like a river. I could feel the cold water surrounding about mid shin. What I had loaded in my crate was going to have to do. I felt my way around avoiding our pool table, couch and entertainment center. I slowly made my way up the stairs, moving against the current of the water flowing down. I looked down one last time, to the bottom floor of my house and realized it would never be the same again.
Two years earlier:
“Family meeting in ten minutes,” my dad said while popping his head into my room. I came to a pausing point in my homework and headed to the living room where everyone was already waiting for my dad with curious looks on their faces. I sat between my two siblings just as my dad walked into the room. The attention instantly went to him; he went to the front of the room. He stood before us trying to find words. “We are going to move across town to a bigger house. We need the extra storage room and we need to follow the prophet’s council and get more room for food storage,” he informed us. “More news that isn’t as exciting. The prophet has repeatedly told us that we need to be out of debt. Your mother and I have decided to take this more seriously, this means less eating out and we may need to lose a couple of luxuries to meet this goal.”
We all sat quietly unsure on what to say. Whatever my dad said went in the household. His tall, broad appearance helped us learn quickly to never argue back when he made a decision. We all knew what this message entailed. We would need to cut back on certain conveniences and make sure that we ate before going out of town, because we would not be stopping. The more each of us thought about this the more we realized it wasn’t a difficult thing that was asked of us.
Within the next year we had moved and our attempt to get out of debt was working. We were eating dinner one warm night in September, when my dad announced he had an announcement. “Thanks to your great efforts we are officially out of debt excluding the house.” I was so ecstatic that our diligence to the task asked of us had paid off.
Two months later on 3rd of December, 2007 my dad was awoken to my brother standing above him. “Dad, there is water on the ground down stairs,” my brother informed him. My dad sleepily rolled out and walked with my brother down the stairs. Sure enough there was a good inch covering the entire surface of our floor. The rest of the family was awaken. We all walked down the stairs half asleep. “Ok everyone everything up to a foot off the ground needs to be moved up onto a higher shelf.
I walked slowly down the stairs the next morning the water had receded a little, but there was a muddy swimming pool in my basement.
If we hadn’t been out of debt, we wouldn’t have had enough money to get through the situation. The fact that we had an uncharged credit card helped us move forward and get started on the rebuilding process.

More FHE Craziness
I honestly don't know where our FHE dad comes up with the randomness, but we yet again had another interesting Monday night. Our FHE dad discovered that if you fill your mouth with cornstarch and blow it into a lite match that it will cause a huge fire ball. It is very entertaining to watch but the taste of corn starch in your mouth is a very unpleasant experience. It gets worse when you sit there with it in your mouth and when you go to do it you blow out the flame instead of expanding the flame. This happened to me multiple time I think I had only one good one.(In picture above)Me Failing :(
Some of the and turns out most dangerous one we did was when we all went at the same time. It did have the biggest flame but also gave off a lot of heat. We really didn't think this through prior to that moment and we were all shocked at the outcome. All in all it made of another messy and memorable evening.

Some people just shine at this kind of thing.
